The game can be played with a keyboard or a joystick. Listed here are the keys for when using a keyboard.
General Keys[]
These keys function in most situations.

| F1, Enter | select the current selection or use object |
| Esc | go to the higher level menu or exit current action |
| Alt + A | toggle animations on/off. This refers to the animations shown in the hideout screen. It needs to be used before entering the hideout screen. |
| Alt + P | pause the game |
| Alt + S | toggle the sound on/off. Sound needs to be on at the start of the game, otherwise this key is useless. |
| Alt + Q | quit the game |
Combat mini-game[]
| F1, Enter | select, use, open/close |
| F2 | photograph the object |
| F3 | place bug |
| F4 | access terminal to enter password |
| F5 | throw grenade at a short distance |
| F6 | throw grenade at a moderate distance |
| F7 | throw grenade at a long distance |
| F8 | detonate grenades set for remote control |
| F9 | set grenade for booby trap or remote control |
| F10 | select a different type of grenade to use |
| Space | fire gun |
| Arrow keys | move, face direction |
| 5 (keypad) | crouch/stand |
| Shift + Arrow keys | jump over an obstacle |
| F | fast speed. This changes the speed for the mini-games of combat and driving, both for the player and the enemy. |

| F1 | make arrest when chasing (car needs to be on top of the suspect's car). |
